Approach published for forthcoming review of UK aid funding for refugees in the UK

10 Nov 2022

ICAI has today published its planned approach for a forthcoming review of UK aid funding for refugees in the UK, which is a significant and growing proportion of UK aid.

In-donor refugee support costs – aid used to fund expenses related to hosting refugees and asylum seekers within donor countries – have risen sharply in the UK since 2014 and made up more than 8% of all UK aid in 2021, approximately £891 million. A further large increase in this type of spend is expected in 2022.

ICAI’s rapid review will look at all UK aid spent on supporting refugees and asylum seekers within the UK between 2015 and 2022, including by the Home Office, the Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities, the Department of Health and Social Care and the Department for Education.
