Our approach

This review set out to examine how effectively DFID’s education programmes in Nigeria deliver impact, focusing in particular on pupil experiences and the community perspective on primary and junior secondary level education.

It considered the effectiveness and perceived impact of the GEP and ESSPIN education programmes. The main focus was on gathering community and pupil perspectives on the pupil experience in schools. In particular, we focused on:

  • beneficiary understanding of ESSPIN and GEP community-level programmes;
  • their experience of these programmes;
  • whether these programmes address beneficiary-defined needs;
  • whether the beneficiaries feel they have voice in the design and implementation of the activities; and
  • beneficiary perceptions of programme impact.
