ICAI follow-up review of 2022-23 reports

Summary

Our annual follow-up review assesses progress made by aid-spending government departments and funds on addressing ICAI recommendations. This is an important step in the accountability chain, providing the International Development Committee (IDC) and wider development stakeholders with evidence on whether the government has taken appropriate action in response to our recommendations.

This year’s follow-up covers the nine reviews published between July 2022 and July 2023:

• UK aid to Afghanistan
• The UK’s approaches to peacebuilding
• The UK’s approach to democracy and human rights
• UK aid to India
• UK aid to refugees in the UK
• The FCDO’s Programme Operating Framework
• UK aid for trade
• UK aid to agriculture in a time of climate change

It also returns to four reviews published in previous years to address outstanding issues from last year’s follow-up exercise:

• The UK’s approach to tackling modern slavery through the aid programme
• UK aid’s alignment with the Paris Agreement
• Tackling fraud in UK aid through multilateral organisations
• The UK’s humanitarian response to COVID-19
