We have published a non-evaluative information note, mapping the UK’s support for the Global Fund to defeat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, to coincide with the Global Fund’s seventh round of replenishment.

Summary

The Global Fund is an international partnership designed to accelerate the end of AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria as epidemics. It mobilises and invests more than $4 billion a year to support programmes run by local experts in more than 100 countries. It works in partnership with governments, civil society, technical agencies, the private sector and people affected by the diseases.

The UK is a founding member and long-time partner of the Global Fund. It is the third largest donor, with total contributions of £4.18 billion to date. In June 2019, then Prime Minister Theresa May pledged up to £1.4 billion for the Global Fund’s sixth replenishment, covering 2020-22.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, global health was named as one of seven priority areas for UK aid. The Global Fund is a key partner in this area with the UK investing an additional £60 million to combat the pandemic. The seventh replenishment takes place in September 2022, with a target of $18 billion.
